YAY!!!!! Something both original AND unusual!

What can I say? Almost too much originality for just one song! Little beeps, boops, and I believe I heard a gameboy startup in there lol. Many of the other remixes are just too straightforward for my tastes; the same ol' song with different sounds put to the notes. Not you, sir. Thank you for bringing back a GOOD remix of a truly memorable song.

Well i tried to make most of the sounds from the original game but also included some from super mario bros and super mario kart =D I just wanted to make a worthwhile tribute to the game :) Thanks for the review :)

Bravo

Agreeing with X-infinity-Zero, what I love is not the "new technological sounds" or fancy pans, band tweaks, or oscillators, but your amazing sense of melody. Your melodic and original style makes you a new favorite artist of mine. Also, this is probably one of the most non-repetitive songs I've heard. Your beats, mixes, transitions practically never repeat, and the sounds you picked seem near-perfectly suited for the song.

Criticism? Er...well honestly, it's quite hard to find something to criticize when enjoying the song so damn much! The only thing I find a bit distracting is the quality is a bit low, but it IS a long song after all (not that I mind in the slightest). Keep the refreshing work coming!

PaulyBFromDa303 responds:

Well the quality issue is quite simple, my program is WAAAAAAY obsolite as of now, and I desperately am needing of a new one. I am still trying to figure out Fruity Loops 9, but until I do this crappy one will have to work. Thanks for your opinion, that's what I love about this sort of thing.

And I'm really glad you like the song. I aim for it never to be repetitive. Sometimes I fail lol. But hey what doesnt kill us makes better songs right? LOL Thanks a lot man

I see you came back with another good one.

Liking the new sounds! I love your melodies and composition, but somehow the entire song sounds.. well muffled. There are no really low or high freqs; your drums have no thump and your harps and strings have no distinct 'zing' to them to make them sound like you are right there.. but sorry I'm rambling.

While your composition is absolutely both astounding and ingenious you might want to play around with some EQ tweaking (remastering would make the song PERFECT). I know FL Studio has something called a "soundgoodizer" that gives the EQ bands a nice stretch and boost to give the sounds a "right there" feel, but I don't know about garageband. Either way, I would love to hear any expounding on this piece in the future. Great job!

jdh504 responds:

Thanks for the great review! It might be cause I turned the overall volume of the whole composition down and was having trouble getting to where it wouldn't peak. I'm definitely not the best at EQing stuff either lol, I could probably mess around with it again though, but regardless of all of that I'm really glad you enjoyed the song! I really appreciate the review and kind criticism! Thanks! :D

Hehe... I like this style a lot

Very intriguing how it feels like I'm hearing this with more than my ears.. Sends waves of chills down my spine. I love the way you can just hear the insistent fear playing all around the edges of the sounds you use. For other listeners, listening in total darkness really does help the effect of the song. Very nice....

Lakhamu responds:

Looks like You've really experienced everything I was hoping to invoke... Thank You very much for this review.

Uh... what?

You sure this isn't one of those demo pieces that comes w/ garageband? I mean c'mon, this sounds too good for something you're even remotely new to! Well, assuming this original, I will say this: very enjoyable, light, slightly comical even, with some good ol' drama to balance it out. Very good balancing act on the variation of themes and atmospheres. I'm still having a hard time believing this is not a darn demo loop. Wow.

jdh504 responds:

Thanks dude I appreciate the kind words! If it helps explain it at all for you, I'm really familiar with the garageband program, so I know how most of it works, this is just new sounds that I got for it. I really appreciate the review man, I'm definitely gonna love making more songs with these sounds, but I'll stop rambling, thanks dude!

You surprised me there...

I didn't expect anything this good when I found this. While I'm not too awfully fond of the music style, I fell in love with the chords you used. The dist guitar was quite a nice touch as well, eh on the 1:01 to 1:16 (transition could use a bit of work), and it kinda cut off on an awkward ending. If you were interested in putting some real backbone and quality into this song I'd like a PM when you finish.

If you were actually interested in a detailed critique, I would say only a few adjustments and remastering were all that were necessary. Your beat is catchy, your chords are equally catchy, but and you might want to fish around for some higher quality sounds/intruments (keep the guitar with just a few tweaks). One last thing, your crash is a bit loud and awkard too. All in all, I see a great song that has serious potential if you wanted it to reach that level.
That's all of my blabbering. I promise ^.^

crazyguylink responds:

I'll send a pm right away

Hawt.

You add lyrics to this and you are the best thing since midget porn.

Johnboii responds:

lol Thanks, Yeah this is very very preliminary I have already written out the lyrics, Im just looking for the best way to put lyrics in I'm debating styles.

Good sir, you have been zero-bombed...

This song deserves FAR better than a 3.75 (atm). I agree with F-777. Breath-taking and it certainly has the effect of wrapping one up in a completely different world. Love it!

combatplayer responds:

thanks allot :D and yeah... i was zerobombed as the first thing when this came in... all my music have troped drasticaly in points since all these zero freaks came.. alse my speeded up vertion of this got bombed hardly from the very start.. its sad a few ppl can to that to so many others... thanks for the review :)

Truly an audible tranquilizer...

From the perfectly ambient keys to your strong orchestra, sir you have captivated me with your work. Your flow is perfect and everything is so full of emotion. Your acoustics sound so real I'm almost positive you had this recorded somehow. I love it! As much as I wish my opinion were a more educated one, it is not. So I will merely say this is up there with the work of Denny Schneidemesser. I must ask though, is your orchestra recorded by any chance or is that a plugin? If plugin (or heaven forbid, a sample!), what kind?

nathanallenpinard responds:

The strings are utilizing the Vienna Symphonic Library, which is somewhat a step up from EWQLSO (in my opinion) but the other reason why it sounds real is because I use an EWI to input MIDI, which in turn converts the breath I put into it to expression data in the strings.

Also, the use of convolution reverb is a must in orchestra. In this case it's Logic's space designer.

God I remember this game from so long ago!

Besides making another incredible song, techno to say the least, you've made one of my favorite childhood games. I am overly astounded at the coincidence.

Besides all that, I believe you've demonstrated exceptional, not basic, knowledge of MIDI. I do have a question, however: when you input your instruments, do you edit them for time? Do you even record your tracks in real-time? Well that's actually two questions, lol. Just wondering. Anywho, thank you for bringing back one of my childhood memories, as well as a great remix.

Reasoner responds:

most of the tracks are recorded in real time, although crazy synth lines and drum patterns are inputed manually. :)
